The essential conditions for successful culture change

In order to successfully meet the challenges of the 21st Century, requiring a focus on people and planet issues as well as making an ethical profit, a company will need to ensure its culture is fit to meet these challenges.

Such a great workplace culture will not come about by accident. It will require a dedicated commitment, from everybody, to create a working environment where everyone treats each other with respect and compassion and feel empowered, engaged and valued.

It's all about the culture!

As mentioned previously, having a great workplace culture is the essential bedrock of a sustainable company but seems that over 70% of culture change initiatives fail.

Unless a culture change initiative is tackled holistically and part of a sustained strategy, it will join the many others as an expensive and time consuming failure. In order to achieve success, is essential that the initiative is supported by management, be employee-centric and utilise the inspirational and creative energy of your “Culture Change Champions”.

The essential conditions are:

An understanding and acceptance that we, at all levels of seniority, must all take personal responsibility for the decisions and actions we take as individuals with these decisions based on the Company’s Values and Code of Ethics. #ItStartsWithMe.

Where your Champions form a dedicated committee (“Culture Committee?) with a clear mandate from senior management to create a great workplace culture. It is preferable that a senior executive is on the Culture Committee and with a Culture Committee member reporting directly to the Board.

Where the development of a structured culture change strategy is co-created via open discourse engaging everybody (who is interested) not just senior managers.  Click here to link to “The Pathway to a Great Workplace Culture“.

Where the Company Values and Code of Ethics are co-created (or an existing code updated) with anyone interested, via surveys, focus groups and Town Hall meetings. Click here for “How to create a Code of Ethics

Where the Company’s Social Purpose is co-created: on how the company contributes to making the world a better place to live and work. In other words, why the company exists outside of making a profit covering its responsibility to society, its people, customers, all other stakeholders, the local community and to the environment. See here “How to Establish a Social Purpose”.
